I’m excited to be sharing my favorite neutral colors for fall and winter. You may be thinking, “wait… I thought all the colors were suppose to be getting darker and warmer for fall and winter…” And you’re right, but who says you can’t break a couple rules here and there? I full heartily think that you can wear neutrals ALL. YEAR. ROUND. Can I get an AMEN? Too much? Okay.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some olive and burgundy in the fall and winter. But there’s something about neutrals that I keep gravitating towards recently.
Right now, if I could live in 3 colors it would be gray, camel, and taupe. Pair it with black or white, and you’ve got yourself a killer chic ensemble. These combination of colors are just so clean and look great on everyone. Not to mention, very on trend right now. I don’t follow trends for the sake of following trends. I only follow a trend if I like it, and it makes me feel confident. So I encourage you to do the same. Invest in things YOU like, not things people say you should like at the moment… even if that person is me ;). That goes for more than just clothing, it applies to many aspects of your life.
You’ll always hear me say, “you do you.” And occasionally, “you do you, boo!”
Have a great week!

So I’m going to be honest, I use to think that if you wore plaid you were either going to a rodeo or you were a lumberjack. I am a lot wiser than I use to be, and in fact, this just isn’t true. Plaid is a wonderful and beautiful thing! So if you are thinking like I use to think, think that no longer. Plaid is especially wonderful in the fall, and can be carried into winter. Today I’ve rounded up my favorite fall plaid shirts, and show you how I wore my favorite fall plaid in a causal, everyday look.
I’ve also included my favorite plaid miscellaneous items. I’m serious guys… I’ve really turned around my perspective on plaid. #gimmealltheplaid
In all seriousness, don’t be afraid of plaid. There are tons of colors, like the neutral plaid shirt I’m wearing if you need to ease into the idea.
If you live in Houston, Texas and you love Christmas just as much as I do… you need to pencil in the Nutcracker Market in your calendar right now for 2017. I just went for the first time this last weekend (s/o to Stephen for surprising me!) and it was heaven. Crowded and a little chaotic, but just lovely. Christmas decor galore. Champagne galore. Christmas music galore. I already can’t wait till next year!

It’s hard for me to say that summer is officially over in Texas, because I feel like I am going to jinx it… It feel so wonderful outside right now, and I hope sub 90 degree weather is here to stay. If you were to ask me what my favorite season is, I would respond with, “what are seasons?” But in reality, fall may be my favorite season. There is something about the colors changing and the weather cooling off, that brings me happiness. Oh, not to mention all the fall and holidays decorations… that also brings me lots of happiness. One of my favorite things in the world is decorating for fall and the holidays that follow.
Today I’m so excited to be sharing with you a “Texas inspired fall outfit.” It is Texas inspired, because let’s be real… I’m not going to be struttin’ the streets with a pullover sweater and blanket scarf just yet. But just because I can’t wear those fall pieces, doesn’t mean you can’t still look like fall. I don’t think the off-the-shoulder look is going anywhere this fall, and I’m not mad about it. Add dark wash denim or black denim to a neutral top, throw on some booties, and you’re already channeling fall. If you want to go one step further, don’t be afraid to start wearing darker mauve and plum lippies!

Today I’m sharing an easy fall transition outfit, that is so easily replicable it’s almost too easy. If you know me at all, neutral staple pieces make up more than 75% of my closet. I love the ability to quickly throw together staple pieces that work for all seasons, and add accessories or pops of color to fit the current season. I’m really a low-stress, minimal effort kind of girl. Almost everyone owns a neutral colored cami or tank top and their favorite dark wash jeans. If not, you need to getcha some girlfriend. Seems like a pretty basic outfit, right? It is, which is why it’s my favorite. All you have to do to turn this #basic outfit into a chic fall transition outfit is add your favorite cardigan and some cute shoes! Oh, and don’t forget your favorite lipstick! You can dress it up with heels or booties, or down with flats or sneakers. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Another way to turn your basic outfit into a fall transition outfit, is your bag! I love this crossbody, because it is so versatile and handy. Some girls ONLY carry black bags, but not this girl. This is honestly my only black bag at the moment. To me, black bags are for fall. There is something about a black bag that makes me think, “PSL is coming.” Also, the inside of this bag is a lux camel colored suede. Suede is huge this fall, and this bag will definitely be a repeat offender for me this season. Not to mention the straps can be removed to be carried as a clutch. I mean, what more could a girl want?
SALE ALERT: This Express top is currently BOGO 50% off at Express.com! The pinky mauve lip liner is also BOGO 50% at Ulta.com!
Quick S/O to Sarah Melyssa Photography for agreeing to work with me on this post! It was SO much fun! If you ever need a photographer for anything, she’s your girl.
If there’s one thing I LOVE about the summer the most, it’s wearing cute summer dresses. Another thing I love is you can find them at a reasonable price, like under $100. You can wear them to the beach, out shopping, and even to those hot outdoor summer weddings. There is something so fun and feminine about wearing a cute breezy summer dress! And believe me, it definitely needs to be breezy because the Texas heat does not mess around! Here are my top summer dresses you need to snag under $100.
Prior to last year, I was absolutely CLUELESS about the greatness that is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Or what the cool kids are calling it… #Nsale. I discovered this God-given sale last year, when pretty much every single item was sold out. So this year, I was determined to be on top of it. Even still, items were FLYING off the shelves. Seriously. I had early access to the sale, and items in my cart were completely selling out while I was still shopping. Craziness. I was able to scoop up some staple pieces for fall at amazing deals. WARNING: Some things I purchased are now sold out, so I linked them in different colors or a similar item. So without further ado, here are some the clothing pieces I snagged at the #Nsale…
Nordstrom Lingerie Two-Way Seamless Tank | These are great staple pieces for anytime of year. You can wear them as tank tops in the warmer months, or undershirts in the cooler months. You can wear them two ways, there are no tags, and they come in tons of colors. I scooped up the white, beige, black, and ivory pristine. They are on sale for 2 for $30!
Halogen Long Sleeve Stretch Poplin Shirt | Before the #NSale I went through my closet and I realized I didn’t have any classic white button down shirts. I know, shame on me. I really wanted the BP. Woven Twill Classic but the white color sold out SUPER fast, and I wasn’t able to snag one. I ordered my normal size.
Joe’s ‘Honey’ Curvy Skinny Jeans | LOVE LOVE LOVE these jeans! I have a hard time finding jeans that fit me, and these are snug and comfortable.
Love on a Hanger Thermal Henley Top | I bought this top in the heather grey color, both in my regular size. I think this top will be great to layer under a cardigan [see cardigan linked below], or even by itself as a casual ‘I woke up like this’ look. I don’t think the grey color is available at the moment, but they have a cute cider color that I think will be this fall’s #1 color.
Lush Deep-V Neck Tee | Speaking of basic tees. I think I hit the jackpot with these tees. I’ve gone through so many tees and they are either too tight, too see through, or wear out too quickly. They are only $12 and it is a great basic tee. It has a looser fit, which I love and it is a great staple no matter the season. I snagged the heather grey, grape leaf, and black. I ordered a size up and I love the way they fit. I think if I had ordered my normal size, it would have been slightly too form fitting for my liking.
BP. Plaid Tunic Shirt | I purchased this top in the white suzy plaid color in my normal size. I love plaid tops in the fall, and with the neutral colors of this one I’m excited to wear it all the time. I plan to wear it as a top and as a cardigan over a basic tee.
Caslon Zip Back High/Low Tunic Sweater | Apparently, I can’t pass up a good deal on cashmere… this sweater is really soft, and has the comfortable oversize fit. The zip in the back is a cute detail that most sweaters don’t have. Love this sweater. It comes in regular & petite sizes, and comes in beautiful fall colors. I purchased the grey oatmeal stripe color in my normal size. If you want a closer fit, size down.
Leith Shawl Collar Cocoon Cardigan | I have plenty of black sweaters from my wedding stylist days, but I’m so excited to have this charcoal heather cocoon cardigan. It has a cute shape, and not your typical straight cut cardigan. I recommend ordering your normal size.
Hudson Jeans ‘Nico’ Skinny Jeans | I have been on the hunt for black jeans that are a solid rich black color, and not faded anywhere. I finally found it! I’m smitten.
BP. Open Front Cardigan | I purchased this cardigan in the grey medium heather color, and it’s a loose fit (my favorite). I ordered it in my normal size. Unfortunately this is one of the items that sold out really quickly. I have linked a similar style here — BP. Hooded Longline Cardigan
BLANKNYC Faux Leather Skinny Pants | So I’ll be honest, I’m not a leather pants kind of girl. I’ve always shied away because they are such a statement piece. Because let’s be real, when you see a girl rocking some leather pants you think, “man… she is one cool chick.” I purchased the blacked out color, and I’m excited to give these bad boys a test run once the cooler weather rolls in.
Dreamers by Debut Seam Detail Pullover Sweater | As of right now this GORGEOUS sweater is completely sold out. I purchased it in the olive color, and sized up. It ended up being way too big so I had to return it. I went back to see if I could exchange it for a smaller size, and it was already sold out. So I would recommend that you order your normal size if you like an oversized fit, or if you want it to be more form fitting, size down. I’m crossing my fingers they restock this sweater, because it would definitely be on repeat for me.
Dreamers by Debut Seamed V-Neck Pullover | So this sweater, I accidentally sized up so definitely order your normal size. It is a true oversized fit. The good news is, it is so soft that I decided not to return it and keep it as a lounge sweater. I’m telling you, it is blanket soft. I can’t wait to wear it around the house once it cools off.
Halogen Cashmere Long Drape Front Cardigan | This cardigan is available in regular & petite sizes. I purchased the heather camel in my regular size – I’m super stoked I was able to get this color before it sold out. I love a long draped cardigan and this one is almost $100 off! The heather charcoal is still available, and I highly recommend you go get this because it looks great over everything!
Love, Fire Long Sleeve Rib Knit Dress | This dress is on back order, so I haven’t been able to try it on yet, but I’m super hopeful that it’s going to be a true flowy shift dress and the cross detailing on the front is to die for. I ordered a size up, so I hope it is not too big.
CeCe ‘Kayte’ Lace Shift Dress | I bought this dress to wear to an upcoming wedding I have been invited to this fall. It comes in regular & petite sizes. I ordered my normal size, and in the new fuchsia color… talk about gorgeous. I love shift dresses and this one did not disappoint. The lace overlay detailing is beautiful.
Lush ‘Whitney’ Bell Sleeve Woven Shift Dress | I bought this dress thinking it was going to be the same fabric as Lush’s V-Neck Crepe Blouse. It’s not, BUT it’s still a winner in my books. You will have to steam this dress as it wrinkles, but luckily thanks again to my wedding stylist days, I’m a pro steamer. I purchased the plum color in my normal size. It comes in tons of beautiful prints and colors, and it’s great because you can throw on flats or sandals, or dress it up with booties or heels.
