So January and February were like free trial months for 2017, right? Anyone else feel that way? I certainly do. I just couldn’t seem to get it together in January and clearly February either. Its been crazy. A new year is a great way to reflection, refresh, and make resolutions. Whether the resolutions are changes you want to see that you disliked in 2016 or things you plan to do that you never had a chance to before. I’m not just referring to changes such as working out more and drinking more water (although those are always great things to strive for). So now that my 59 day free trial is over I wanted to share with you my reflections on 2016 and some resolutions I have for 2017.
#1. 2016 was quick. It flew by, and now I’m sitting here trying to remember everything that happened… and it all seems like a blur.
#2. 2016 was rough. Between Stephen and I, there were lots of uncertainty, lots of change, and a lot of hard decisions. Towards the end of 2016 I caught myself thinking “please just let 2016 end.” I wanted a new start, and to start writing Day 1 of 365.
#3. 2016 was a learning experience. With all the toughness that 2016 brought us, I know I ended 2016 a strong person. I learned that I can in fact make it through when I felt like I couldn’t go on.
#4. 2016 was a dull year. When reflecting on my accomplishments and things I am proud of that I did in 2016, I really came up with nothing. That may be partly because I’m extremely hard on myself, but I also really think that I didn’t DO much. I didn’t challenge myself. I didn’t try to do new things or to better myself.
#5. 2016 was goal-less. This kind of goes with #4, but I didn’t really set any resolutions in 2016. Partly because I knew I wouldn’t work very hard at keeping them… whoops.
#1. Slow Down – with 2016 flying by for me, I really want to focus on living each day and enjoying the moments and events in 2017. Its so easy to get caught up in the routine and the mundane activities of day to day life.
#2. Have Faith – now I’m not saying I lost my faith in 2016, rather I’m saying I need to have a little more faith and trust in God when it comes to the hard times I’ll for sure run into in 2017. I’m sure lots of people can relate to me when I say that sometimes I forget that I’m not necessary writing my own story. God has a plan for me and He created my story when he created me in the image of His likeness. What God brings me to, He will also bring me through it. Everything that I experience, everything that tests me is for a reason and I need to trust that.
#3. Be Positive – I hope that I can take a more positive perspective on everything. Inherently I always think the WORST possible thing/outcome/result. I hope that in 2017 I can accept the challenges and tough times life throws at me and not just think of it as a negative thing.
#4. Challenge Myself – I want to make a list of challenges I want to complete, things I want to check off my bucket list, and things I want to accomplish in 2017. I really want to make 2017 a year I can look back on and be proud of.
#5. Set Goals – luckily, by writing this blog post I am already starting on this resolution! YAY ME. I want to set goals in 2017. Not only for me personally, but also for this blog. I want something to reach for, to strive for, to work for. I’m a very competitive person, and I know that I will work harder if I have set a goal that I want to reach.
Hopefully this was insightful for you! Maybe you haven’t had time to reflect on your 2016 or maybe you haven’t made any resolutions for 2017 yet. If you have any resolutions for 2017 you’d like to share, comment down below and let me know what they are!
I’m excited to be sharing my favorite neutral colors for fall and winter. You may be thinking, “wait… I thought all the colors were suppose to be getting darker and warmer for fall and winter…” And you’re right, but who says you can’t break a couple rules here and there? I full heartily think that you can wear neutrals ALL. YEAR. ROUND. Can I get an AMEN? Too much? Okay.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some olive and burgundy in the fall and winter. But there’s something about neutrals that I keep gravitating towards recently.
Right now, if I could live in 3 colors it would be gray, camel, and taupe. Pair it with black or white, and you’ve got yourself a killer chic ensemble. These combination of colors are just so clean and look great on everyone. Not to mention, very on trend right now. I don’t follow trends for the sake of following trends. I only follow a trend if I like it, and it makes me feel confident. So I encourage you to do the same. Invest in things YOU like, not things people say you should like at the moment… even if that person is me ;). That goes for more than just clothing, it applies to many aspects of your life.
You’ll always hear me say, “you do you.” And occasionally, “you do you, boo!”

I don’t know about you, but I could spend my entire life savings at Sephora. Okay, that’s a bit much. But Lord knows, I could do some damage in there. I always love to receive thoughtful gifts from friends and family, especially if it’s a Sephora holiday gift set. I also LOVE mini versions. Mini diet cokes = love. Mini puppies = love. Mini tabasco = want it, and I don’t even eat tobasco. Mini products = love. Catch my drift? Anything that is normally big, and they make it in a small, tiny size… I want it.
I digress… every time the holidays come around I look forward to seeing all the gift sets Sephora comes out with. I buy gift sets all year round, honestly. But I feel like during the holidays brands put extra effort into their gift sets, and more brands make gift sets that wouldn’t normally. They are also such a good deal! Some gift sets include full sized products, along with bonuses or extras for the same price if not cheaper than the full sized product alone.
I also like to try new products, which gift sets are a super convenient way of doing just that! Often brands will combine some of their best sellers into one gift set, so you get to try the best of the best from that brand with ONE purchase. I mean, come on… WINNING!
I’ve included some of the Sephora holiday gift sets I picked up within the last couple of weeks. Which by the way are all UNDER $50! Can we take a moment to appreciate that, please? I also included other gift sets that I didn’t pick up, but totally would if I could afford it. Let’s be real. There’s something in this gift guide for all the ladies in your life. Something for the makeup lover, the skincare lover, fragrance lover, mask lover, and the haircare lover. Happy shopping lovelies!
So I’m going to be honest, I use to think that if you wore plaid you were either going to a rodeo or you were a lumberjack. I am a lot wiser than I use to be, and in fact, this just isn’t true. Plaid is a wonderful and beautiful thing! So if you are thinking like I use to think, think that no longer. Plaid is especially wonderful in the fall, and can be carried into winter. Today I’ve rounded up my favorite fall plaid shirts, and show you how I wore my favorite fall plaid in a causal, everyday look.
I’ve also included my favorite plaid miscellaneous items. I’m serious guys… I’ve really turned around my perspective on plaid. #gimmealltheplaid
In all seriousness, don’t be afraid of plaid. There are tons of colors, like the neutral plaid shirt I’m wearing if you need to ease into the idea.
If you live in Houston, Texas and you love Christmas just as much as I do… you need to pencil in the Nutcracker Market in your calendar right now for 2017. I just went for the first time this last weekend (s/o to Stephen for surprising me!) and it was heaven. Crowded and a little chaotic, but just lovely. Christmas decor galore. Champagne galore. Christmas music galore. I already can’t wait till next year!

I really can’t get over the fact that it’s November already… I feel like I say that at the beginning of every new month. Needless to say, I’m excited for the holidays and my favorite month of the entire year, December.
This past weekend I didn’t work on Saturday… which, you might think is pretty normal, but for me it’s like once in a blue moon. So Stephen and I decided to that that opportunity to take a day trip to The Silos in Waco, TX. If you’re not familiar with The Silos, it’s a place created by Chip and Joanna Gaines from the HGTV show Fixer Upper. They bought these two silos, and created this amazing space around it in Downtown Waco, Texas. There’s a beautiful garden, a green lawn with lawn games, a market full of home decor galore, food trucks surrounding the perimeter, and the newly finished bakery on the corner. It’s so relaxing, and just a fun space for the whole family.
I always wanted to go, because I die over the show Fixer Upper and all the interior design and decor. But also because I LOVE Chip and Joanna. I just think they are normal, real, and authentic people with big dreams. They are just like us, and they really are the cutest on TV. They openly talk about their faith and belief in God, and that’s a big ‘ol “W” in my books!
Honestly, you need to see the whole grounds. It’s not at big of an area, so it’s pretty easy to do. Once you get to the entrance, more than likely you’re going to see a long line for the Bakery at the corner. We choose to bypass the Bakery and walk around the ground to explore first. We eventually stumbled upon the Gardens, were we purchased two adorable pumpkins. After the Gardens we walked around and discovered they were having a Barn Sale… SCORE. Then we walked into the Magnolia Market, and we hit up the Bakery before getting back on the trolley to go home.
We parked off the grounds and took a modernized trolley to the entrance of The Silos. The trolley driver gives you little fun facts about downtown Waco, as you’re driving through it. It’s free, and you can get on and off at any of the stops at no cost. I know there are some museums in downtown Waco, which we didn’t visit. The trolley runs every 8-1o minutes, and stops running at 6pm which is when everything closes. I believe the grounds are open till 7pm, so you can hang out and catch the sunset. It’s also not necessary to take the trolley, you can definitely walk. From where we parked, we were only 2 or 3 blocks away.
Do go in the Magnolia Market, it’s crowded but worth it. Especially if you watch the show and are a fan. You’ll just appreciate the style, and the items you’ll see. I loved seeing the metal work from their friend Jimmy (JDH Iron Designs) in the store. They also have a whole corner dedicated to Chip. Also, do find a spot to just sit and relax. It has the feel of grandma and grandpa’s backyard, and everyone is there just hanging out. Last but not least, do go to the Bakery. It’s super cute, but also super crowded. They have an efficient system of making it go quickly. I had the pumpkin spice cupcake, and it was good! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I definitely prefer my homemade pumpkin cupcakes.
We had lunch just prior to arriving to The Silos… rookie mistake. And by the time we were starting to feel hungry again, all the food trucks were closing for the day. But if you go, definitely walk around and check out all the different trucks. As far as I know, they are there all the time, which is pretty neat. Next time we go, I’m definitely hitting up the juice truck and the grilled cheese truck. Mmmm. Of course, grab you a little somethin’ somethin’ at the Bakery.
Stephen did a Google Maps search for food options in the area, and we decided on Vitek’s BBQ. It was delicious, but so very unhealthy. We both got plates they were known for, and apparently voted best meal on a college campus by the Food Network. We sat outside, next to a giant fire pit surrounded by lots of TVs and string lights. I would definitely go back.
It was pretty hot when we went… even though it was the end of October. Get it together Texas. So I wore a simple t-shirt, my new favorite high-waisted jeans (currently 45% off!), my converse, and my new Stella & Dot holiday pieces (silver choker, necklace). I was praying the night before that we would get a cold front, so I could wear a cute fall sweater and boots. Clearly I didn’t have any luck with that…
Thank you for stopping, and I hope you have a great day!
So I’m sometimes really slow at joining bandwagons… but I’m so glad I finally got on this bandwagon! I finally subscribed to FabFitFun! I just received my first box, and it was the Fall 2016 box. If you haven’t heard of FabFitFun before, it’s a quarterly subscription service that sends you the latest in beauty, fashion, and wellness for each season. This isn’t a subscription that sends you tiny sample sizes that you won’t ever use. FabFitFun sends you full-sized products, that I would actually be interested in trying if I were at a store and shopping. Each box for each season is guaranteed to have $120+ worth of full-sized products. The FabFitFun Fall 2016 box total value is $239.99! Each box is $49, but when you use my link below you’ll get $10 off! So it’s really a crazy great deal when you think about the value that you’re getting. I love to try new products and brands, so this subscription is spot on for me. A lot of celebrities love these boxes like the women from the Real Housewives and ladies from the Bachelor and Bachelorette.
So right when you open the box there is a little booklet or magazine that goes over everything that is included in the box. I skipped this part so I could be 100% surprised with all the products. This is where it tells you descriptions of each item, the cost, a little tip, and the overall value of the whole box. The boxes are always really cute, and this Fall box is like a large coloring book page! So that’s pretty neat, and ties in with some of the products that ended up being in the box.
The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous fall colored blanket scarf from Modcloth. I can’t wait to style this later! Then I just started pulling things out like it was Christmas, it was so exciting! Next I pulled out the precious coffee mug with gold lettering that says, “Joy comes in the morning.” The next item was the Nude Collection eyeshadow palette from Pure Cosmetics, which I tried out already. I love the colors, perfect shades for fall. It has a lot of shimmery shades, which I don’t normally gravitate towards. The pigmentation was pretty good, but not the best I’ve ever used.
Then I pulled out the Spongelle body buffer. It is a rose body wash infused buffer that exfoliates and cleanses. It says it’s hypoallergenic and made with extracts of Yuzu, Edelweiss, and Vetiver. I was very excited to try this, because I’ve never tried anything like it. I used in the shower, which thinking back it would probably be easier to use it in the bathtub. The instructions say to submerge it underwater and squeeze it to start the lather. It had a really nice lather to it, and you can definitely feel the exfoliation. I have skin on the more sensitive side, so it was a little rough for me but I think if I had soaked it more it wouldn’t have been as rough. It smelled lovely, and I like that you can use it multiple times before the soap runs out. They also suggest using it as a regular loofah with other soaps once the infusion runs out!
Then I discovered the cute little coloring book, Things Coloring, and the coloring pencils from Pencils Of Promise (which I’ll talk more about later)! How cute, you can color the book AND the box. I LOVE to color, and it’s all the rage right now as a form of meditation and mindfulness. Next up was the Body Oil in French Lavender. It smells so good, and it says to use it in place of your nighttime moisturizer. I used it on my pulse points before bed, and even dropped some in my bath! The next item I pulled out was the toesox! I actually have a serious problem with things being in between my little toes. It seems silly, but it makes me feel claustrophobic. Flip flops are fine, but if my toes feel cramped it’s a no-go for me. But I really like that they have little grippy dots, so it would be great for barre classes or yoga.
Next was a Restoring Night Serum from Skin Laundry. It has a very watery consistency, and it doesn’t really have a smell which is a bonus for some people. I’ve only used it once, and I don’t have any complaints but I can’t speak to how well it works. Lastly, there is the BrowGal clear brow gel. It’s a clear color, so I’m a huge fan of that. I’ve used clear brow gel for my setting and taming my brows (obviously), but also for fly aways at my part in my hair! This is very wet brow gel, and feels like hairspray for your eyebrows. It’s not my favorite formula, but I’ll definitely use it again.
What I didn’t know before getting my FabFitFun Fall box, is that as a bonus they give you bonus sponsored items and coupons! So in this box they had a cute little Secret deodorant, and Cottenelle wipes!
But what I think is the BEST part about this box is the meaning. The partnerships in this Fall box was all about women with ambition. Six of the brands included in the Fall box were founded by women. They highlight in the booklet the importance of lifting up and supporting women. Which, I LOVE. The charity for the FabFitFun Fall box is Pencils Of Promise, who work to ensure that all children have access to quality education. I’m all about supporting charities, and I love that this fun subscription box also has a bigger meaning and purpose to help others and give back.
All in all I am very pleased with my first ever FabFitFun box! My favorite items from the FabFitFun Fall 2016 box is the Modcloth blanket scarf, Spongelle body buffer, and the cute coffee mug. and I can’t wait to see what they come out with for Winter! If you’re interested in trying it out, don’t forget to use the link below to get your $10 off!
It’s hard for me to say that summer is officially over in Texas, because I feel like I am going to jinx it… It feel so wonderful outside right now, and I hope sub 90 degree weather is here to stay. If you were to ask me what my favorite season is, I would respond with, “what are seasons?” But in reality, fall may be my favorite season. There is something about the colors changing and the weather cooling off, that brings me happiness. Oh, not to mention all the fall and holidays decorations… that also brings me lots of happiness. One of my favorite things in the world is decorating for fall and the holidays that follow.
Today I’m so excited to be sharing with you a “Texas inspired fall outfit.” It is Texas inspired, because let’s be real… I’m not going to be struttin’ the streets with a pullover sweater and blanket scarf just yet. But just because I can’t wear those fall pieces, doesn’t mean you can’t still look like fall. I don’t think the off-the-shoulder look is going anywhere this fall, and I’m not mad about it. Add dark wash denim or black denim to a neutral top, throw on some booties, and you’re already channeling fall. If you want to go one step further, don’t be afraid to start wearing darker mauve and plum lippies!
As some of you might know, I was in San Francisco last weekend for something called “Hoopla.” Long story short, Hoopla is what the Stella & Dot Family of Brands calls their weekend conference. This past weekend I was at a conference for EVER Skincare. What some of you might not know is that Stella & Dot has a sister company called EVER. I became a part of EVER Skincare within the first year of it’s existence. We are less than two years old, and we are already disrupting the beauty industry. Our fantastic peel pads have just won Allure’s Best of Beauty for the second year in a row! The first two years of EVER’s existence! I could not be more excited about what is to come for EVER Skincare as a company, and for the effect it will have on thousands and even millions of women’s lives. Personally, I joined EVER because I 1) needed new skincare products, 2) whole heartedly believed in their mission and commitment to only include good-for-you products that deliver incredible results, and 3) I thrive in jobs that aren’t confined to other people’s rules and schedules. EVER gives me that financial freedom and the flexibility to work my business wherever I am and whenever I want.
Coming back to Houston, reality, and humidity was really hard. Not to mention it was really difficult to process everything that I had heard, learned and felt. It has taken me this long to sit down and try and gather my thoughts to share with y’all. Over the weekend I sat in a room with 200 other specialist who started out just like me. The positivity and inspiration in the room was palpable. It’s an amazing site to see that many women (and a few good men) believing in each other and lifting each other up.
We heard from Christin Powell who was the co-founder of Juice Beauty and the product developer for Perricone MD. Christin explained that it takes 12-18 months of development, formulation, and product testing to complete all of our botanically derived products. She was very transparent about the lengthy process creating products that delivers clinical grade results without adding in harsh preservatives or chemicals. We met the hilarious Leslie Blodgett, who has been at the start of billion dollar companies, founded BareMinerals, and believed in EVER so much that she’s also an investor in the company! Let’s not forget she rapped about EVER Skincare… Hamilton style. We welcomed Ani Hadjinian, who left what she thought was her dream job. Ani was the General Manager of Bobbi Brown, and moved across the country to join our conscious beauty movement. New Yorkers don’t move away from New York, much less clear across the country unless it’s for something huge.
We heard from the ever inspiring Mike Lohner, who never ceases to re-instill belief in myself. One of my favorite quotes from Mike’s talk was, “You have everything you need, you just have to unleash it.” Last but not least, Jessica Herrin. Jessica is our fearless leader, CEO, mother figure, and friend. She truly believes in each and everyone of us without hesitation. I knew I would be silly not to jump on this ground breaking, ground level opportunity that is EVER Skincare. The excitement I have when I think about the difference EVER is going to make leaves me with goosebumps.
Stay tuned for a full post on the regimen, and the two new products that are live now!
In the meantime feel free to take our new Skin Quiz! This skin quiz will help you address your skin concerns, and help you customize the regimen to fit your needs. If you have ANY questions, please contact me! If you are at all curious about the opportunity to be a part of EVER Skincare, let’s chat! I am so excited to grow my team and share my passion of helping women embrace their beauty by being confident in their own skin.
Today I’m sharing an easy fall transition outfit, that is so easily replicable it’s almost too easy. If you know me at all, neutral staple pieces make up more than 75% of my closet. I love the ability to quickly throw together staple pieces that work for all seasons, and add accessories or pops of color to fit the current season. I’m really a low-stress, minimal effort kind of girl. Almost everyone owns a neutral colored cami or tank top and their favorite dark wash jeans. If not, you need to getcha some girlfriend. Seems like a pretty basic outfit, right? It is, which is why it’s my favorite. All you have to do to turn this #basic outfit into a chic fall transition outfit is add your favorite cardigan and some cute shoes! Oh, and don’t forget your favorite lipstick! You can dress it up with heels or booties, or down with flats or sneakers. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Another way to turn your basic outfit into a fall transition outfit, is your bag! I love this crossbody, because it is so versatile and handy. Some girls ONLY carry black bags, but not this girl. This is honestly my only black bag at the moment. To me, black bags are for fall. There is something about a black bag that makes me think, “PSL is coming.” Also, the inside of this bag is a lux camel colored suede. Suede is huge this fall, and this bag will definitely be a repeat offender for me this season. Not to mention the straps can be removed to be carried as a clutch. I mean, what more could a girl want?
SALE ALERT: This Express top is currently BOGO 50% off at Express.com! The pinky mauvelip liner is also BOGO 50% at Ulta.com!
Quick S/O to Sarah Melyssa Photography for agreeing to work with me on this post! It was SO much fun! If you ever need a photographer for anything, she’s your girl.
